Many of the best-known treasures around have fallen to the hands of time. From the Declaration of Independence to the Aztec pyramids, some of the world’s greatest artifacts are missing. These artifacts could even have been in ancient hands. They are considered some of the greatest historical treasures. Some have gone missing for many different reasons. Below are some famous examples of lost artifacts.

Famous Missing Treasures

The Ark of the Covenant: A gold-plated wooden box constructed by Moses, the Ark of the Covenant was meant to hold sacred relics. God made it secure and safe. The Ark was found in Jerusalem’s Solomon’s temple, which is where it still stands today. The Babylonians destroyed it in 607 BC. However, the ark is thought to have been taken and hidden somewhere else in the city.

The Aztecs were wiped out by the Spanish in 1519. The next year, Cortes returned to Tenochtitlan with a rebuilt army, and the Aztecs fell under their feet. Montezuma still has not been able to find the treasure despite their hard work. It is believed to be buried beneath Lake Texcoco. Many have attempted to locate it. A second theory is that Montezuma’s exhumed corps carried the treasure south of Utah.

The famous pirate Blackbeard is another famous case of a treasure chest. The notorious pirate Blackbeard terrorized America’s east coast and West Indies and attacked valuable treasure ships. His ship was discovered in 1996 and found to be worth nothing. Many people have been searching for the chest using Fenn’s clues. To date, however, it has not been found.
